This blog is about life with my husband who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's and Frontal Lobe Dementia in 2008. He was 64 at the time although now, knowing more about the disease, Alzheimer's was present many, many years ago, which is why early detection is so important. As you read the blog the character "Al" that I created in 2008, represents the way that Alzheimer's is invading our daily lives.
There is an archive tab further down the page that starts from the beginning of our journey.

Living with Bob and "Al"

Sheri is sharing a conversation she had with "Al" yesterday. This dear sweet man was trying very hard. Although this brought her to tears, God also showed her that although "Al" does not recognize Sheri, Bob in his heart, knows she exists. You will need to turn your speakers way up loud because it is hard to hear. It about 4 minutes long, it was just audio so she added some pictures from her blog from over the years, please listen until the end. This is why this is one of the worst diseases there is, but there are blessings in here as well. September is Alzheimer's Awareness month, please, please help raise awareness.

  1. Oh my, Sheri, that is so precious yet heart-rending at the same time! I loved hearing both Bob and your voices; your love and care is definitely reaching to the core of who Bob is; "Al" cannot stop that love! Wish I could visit you all but I am in South Carolina :) On a different note, I was so happy to hear of all the light in your new apartment. That will be so nice, especially during the cold winter.
    With love & prayers,
    Kathryn

  2. Jim Devore - Bob's high school friend.September 20, 2016 at 8:33 PM

Bob's high school class in Pennsylvania just had their 55 year reunion. About 30 percent of the living members attended. I wish I had this recording to play for them. He sounds so familiar and he sounds so good, so steady, so accurate about who he is and how he feels. He still sounds like the guy I knew. The guy who rode the bus, played in the band and walked down the hall. Then he was head and shoulders above the crowd but with us. Now he would be alone in the crowd. But he still has that "purple loving" wife of his. He has her in his mind and it is clear how much he loves her. It's also become clear over the past couple years, how much she loves him.

    As Always,
Jim Devore - Springdale High School, Class of 1961 - Now, Durham, NC
